INTRODUCTION: To assess the influence of age and weight on equilibrium function in women and the comparison of the balance performance in age decade, and research of significantly decrease start age.
METHOD: Healthy individuals (n=328) were divided over-weight(BMI¡Ã?25.0 kg¡¤m2) n=166 and normal weight(BMI¡Â?25.0 kg¡¤m2) n=163, adult female subjected participated in the study, and dependent variable test was performed for balance test using Biodex medical system SD(USA). And static balance and dynamic test were performed under standing on both feet, left foot, and right foot independently.
RESULTS: It appears that overweight group showed lower test scores for dynamic and static balance tests than normal weight group in all age groups. Dynamic and static balance become lower as age increases, but balance shows significant degradation over age of 50 and up regardless of weight.
CONCLUSION: Overweight becomes a factor for lower balance, and it is true that age of 50 and ups have to pay special attention to prevent from fall due to significant loss of balance at that age.
